The Big Three
While the brain only accounts for 2% of the body’s weight, it uses about 20% of the body’s fuel or energy. Usually the brain uses glucose derived from sugars or carbs for fuel, but there is another fuel pathway for the brain, one that the brain loves to run on: ketones. A really good way to get these ketones is from coconut oil, or some sort of Medium Chain Triglyceride (MCT Oil). The best we have found is Brain Octane – a super distilled form of MCT OIl (containing only C8 or Caprylic Acid) which is derived 100% from coconut oil. It is 18 times as strong as coconut oil in its ability to ultimately allow the Liver to produce Ketones.
(Exogenous Ketones coupled with powdered MCT Oil)
After researching and experimenting with 5 different types of Exogenous Ketones, Dr. Yonce, after speaking to the founder of Kegenix to determine their methods and sources, has picked their product to carry in our office. It is a very clean blend of powdered MCT Oil and Exogenous Ketones in one powder which can be mixed with water. The MCT Oil and the Ketones work synergistically together and provide the brain with the direct fuel that it loves to run on, ketone salts (in the form of Beta Hydroxybutyrate.)
Fish Oil is great for bringing down any inflammation, but the main reason we use it for people during brain training is that a high quality fish oil will have sufficient DHA, which the brain cells use to create healthy cell walls. It is really important to get a high quality brand. We carry a really cost effective one, where you get 1,000 mg of Omega 3’s in each capsule. Biomega 1000 from Biotics Research is the one we carry in our office. It has a near equal mix of EPAs and DHAs as an Omega 3 profile.
